Description
ASPHALT LAB TECHNICIAN LEVEL 2 in District 8. MUST BE ODOT PRE-QUALIFIED
- Responsible for testing asphalt to ensure adherence to federal, state, and client specifications.
- Performs testing and analysis on asphalt.
- Performs aggregate sampling and testing
- Performs density testing n asphalt pavements.
- Completes required reports of data and submits them on time.
- Communicate test results to all appropriate personnel.
- Responsible for the correct use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and for following appropriate health and safety practices.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of materials used.
- Experience with asphalt lab equipment.
- Knowledge of the paving process.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good mathematical skills.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
· A High School diploma or GED required
· Successful completion of the Advanced Structures Test
AND
· ODOT Asphalt Concrete School, Levels 1 and 2
· Aggregate Certification-Level 1 and 2
· ACI Concrete Strength Testing certificate
Should be familiar with
· Knowledge of the operation of the NCAT ignition oven
· ASTM/AASHTO standards
· AASHTO T209-Maximum specific gravity and bituminous paving mixtures
· ASTM D3203-Percent air voids in compacted mixture
· AASHTO T27-Sieve analysis for fine and coarse aggregates
· AASHTO T248-Reducing samples of aggregate to testing size
· AASHTP T11-Washing material finer than the #200 sieve
· AASHTO T27-Sieve analysis for fine and coarse aggregates
· AASHTO T19-Unit wt. and voids in aggregate
· AASHTO D5821-Determining the percentage of fracture particles in coarse aggregate
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, frequently walking, talking, and standing are required.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
