Career Counselor

Full-Time 40 hours per week

40,000-$45,000 / year DOE

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing case management to job seekers from the community as well as from incarceration. Case plans focus on work readiness and program services to those who have challenges of getting or keeping employment. This position will be responsible for maintaining all required forms and records of all clients who access re-entry and career navigations services in our Career Navigation Centers. The primary duties of this position include individual coaching, job skills development, behavioral observation, and coordination with community resources. Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Mission Services to meet program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide 1 : 1 case management to jobseekers to identify challenges to obtaining employment and develop individualized employment plans to support clients’ goals.
  • Complete all documentation and forms required for employment and training, and maintain up-to-date paperwork as required by agency policy and funder needs.
  • Provide 1 : 1 case management and resources to help clients make progress on their individualized employment plans.
  • Record required case notes and progress reports that are objective, comprehensive and distinct in clarity.
  • Ensure client files and paperwork are up-to-date and reflect the progress and provision of clients’ individualized employment plans.
  • Support clients to apply for / navigate SSI and SSDI employment benefit and other public benefit programs, etc.
  • Utilize established curriculum and training tools, facilitate work readiness workshops.
  • Develop connections with area businesses to keep abreast of local workforce needs.
  • Participate in all scheduled professional and supervisory meetings.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as they relate to data privacy, CARF, OSHA, and others.
  • Maintain the Career Navigation Center, ensuring the culture and physical space is inviting and accessible to all jobseekers.
  • Demonstrate the Mission, Vision, and Values of True North Goodwill.
  • Accept other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to relate effectively with clients, referring agents, and community resource providers.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly.
  • Knowledge of organizations and resources located in the region.
  • Proficient digital literacy skills.
  • Education and Experience

  • B.A. / B.S. degree in related field preferred but not required. Previous work or lived experience recognized in lieu of educational obtainment.
  • 3 years’ work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, and understanding systemic inequalities, and episodic poverty.
  • Valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record.
  • This position requires a background check but does not preclude employment- murder / homicide or sexual offences will not be considered.
  • Physical Requirements

    These work environment factors are general in nature : CONSTANT : Sit and near vision. FREQUENT : Bend neck; talk / speak; sit and visual accommodation. OCCASSIONAL : Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; rotate neck, static neck position; walk; hear within 5 feet and midrange vision.

    Salary : $40,000 - $45,000
