Job Summary
The Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the store including: supervision of assigned staff and clients, customer service, merchandising, production, reports, security of money and goods and housekeeping.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all basic store operations including supervising assigned staff, enforcing store and agency policies, handling customer needs and complaints, and managing sales and production areas.
- Maintain a neat and clean retail store keeping merchandise counters, shelves, racks and displays fully stocked and in order. Enhance sales through attractive displays that are changed regularly.
- Manage the production area of the store: schedule adequate staff and effectively write daily assignments to meet or exceed in-store production goals. Monitor daily and weekly production levels on Daily Production Tracking Board; maintain quality control of contributed goods and pricing levels per guidelines; monitor the salvage process to ensure maximum value from all donations; accurately inventory and return all required product to the Garfield facility.
- Monitor and maintain best in class customer service in the retail sales areas and donation drop-off area.
- Monitor merchandise flow, seeing that new stock is put out on the sales floor daily and old merchandise is pulled according to the rotation schedule. Relay changes or special needs to Retail Regional Manager, Relay special transportation needs to the Facilities & Transportation Manager.
- Apply fair and consistent personnel practices as outlined by the personnel policies in the recruitment, hiring, training, discipline, retention and dismissal of assigned staff.
- Maintain an adequate number of staff, and schedule to effectively use budgeted staff hours. Fill open positions in a timely manner; increase work hours of existing staff as allowed or request assistance from neighboring store staff to cover temporary needs.
- Handle clerical details of the store, including daily and weekly store reporting, time sheets, inventory reports, store supply orders, receiving reports, and monthly work schedules.
- Supervise the operation of the cash register and its contents daily. Report significant register overages and shortages to the Retail Sales Manager. Ensure all money handling including “Found Money”, and bank deposits are completed, according to procedure.
- Maintain the designated amount monies in the register and change funds
. - Complete the general orientation and safety orientation for all new employees.
- Review personnel policy highlights and the Employee Purchase and Good Security Policy with the employee. Ensure completion of all required new employee paperwork, and forward to the main office as requested.
- Communicate with Department Managers and administrative office personnel as needed.
- Read and respond to email a minimum of three times per day.
- Complete performance reviews for all staff as scheduled, reflecting an accurate performance appraisal, and including performance improvement and SMART goals. Provide each new Retail Associate with training on all aspects of the Retail Associates position during the first 120 days of employment. Provide follow up training and coaching as needed.
- Supervise and direct all clients assigned to the store, whether in Goodwill’s programming or in partnership with a local service provider. Communicating as needed with Case Managers/ staff and completing required paperwork.
- Assist in the set-up of new store locations and review/reorganization of existing store locations, as requested.
- Complete an accurate and thorough annual physical inventory of goods on hand.
- Attend all required meetings and in-service trainings and relay the necessary information to other store staff. Maintain an up-to-date informational bulletin board and or communication binder that is accessible to all employees.
- Accept other related duties and responsibilities as from time to time may be assigned.
- Achieve sales to budget goal established for this review period; achieving monthly budgeted sales a minimum of 9 out of 12 months.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Vocational, business school or merchandising training preferred
- Minimum two years’ management experience in sales preferred
Physical Requirements
These work environment factors are general in nature: CONSTANT: Stand and near vision. FREQUENT: Bend neck; talk/speak; and visual accommodation. OCCASIONAL: Medium work, lift and carry up to 50 pounds; rotate neck, static neck position; walk; hear within 5 feet and midrange vision.
