What are the responsibilities and job description for the Healthcare Grant Writer position at TrueCare?
Under the direction of the Director of Grants, the Grant Writer (I or II) will support organizational development through the research, evaluation, and development of high-quality and mission forward proposals for timely submission of grants from funding sources including, but not limited to, government, nonprofit, foundations, and for-profit funding opportunities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Research and identify potential funders, including database searches, internet searches, and calling funders.
- Collaborate and work with TrueCare leadership and staff to identify funding opportunities in alignment with the TrueCare mission and strategic plan; obtain necessary internal and external data to analyze, compare, and contrast for proposal development, writing, and assist the team in grant and program decisions.
- Maintain up-to-date records of grant listings, application deadlines, funder communications, and other information, as identified; ensure appropriate tracking for forecasted applications to meet deadlines.
- Thoroughly evaluate funding opportunities and prepare concise summaries inclusive of funding recommendations.
- Obtain necessary internal and external data to analyze, compare for proposal development and writing, and assist the team in grant and program decisions.
- Lead or assist with the development of government, public and private grant proposals, including research, writing, editing, packaging, submission, and appropriate follow-up, assuring that grant proposals are compliant with funder guidelines.
- Create budgets for all grant applications, including identifying/researching personnel costs, acquiring equipment quotes, and working with staff to identify appropriate programmatic costs; ensure all costs align with both grant applications and TrueCare’s guidelines and policies.
- Identify current funding trends, including funder priorities and awards to other organizations through internet research, conversations with other nonprofit organization staff, and funders’ 990s; identify and outreach to new public and private sources.
- Assist department staff with other reports, projects, etc., as needed, including, but not limited to, the Community Health Needs Assessment and annual reports.
- Prepare reports as requested for grant management, business development, and external affairs.
- Represent TrueCare at grant workshops, community roundtables, award ceremonies, and other community events, as directed; may require some evening and weekend hours.
- Maintain working knowledge of TrueCare’ s programs, strategic plans, funding initiatives, and future direction to ensure grant efforts appropriately align.
- Level I responsibilities plus:
- Foster funder relationships and collaborate with Health Center Partners to identify new funding opportunities.
- Support the Director of Grants in preparing the annual grant plan, as directed.
- Lead or assist with the development of larger government, public and private grant proposals, including research, writing, editing, packaging, submission, and appropriate follow-up, assuring that grant proposals are compliant with funder guidelines.
- Prepare grant writer team meeting agendas.
- Identify and develop opportunities for improved workflow processes within grants department, internal stakeholder meetings, and external stakeholder collaborations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree; preferably in healthcare.
- Minimum of three years (level I) or five years (level II) of grant writing, preferably in a FQHC or nonprofit health context.
- Experience with federal, state, and county grant writing.
- Proficiency in MS Office software, ability to design graphs, diagrams, and flow charts.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Certificate in Grant Writing preferred.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
