Librarian Fontbonne, the Early College of Boston 30 hrs/wk during school year Reports to: Assistant Head of School for Academics Overview: Fontbonne is seeking a passionate and dynamic School Librarian who will foster a love of reading and learning within our diverse student body. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to creating a welcoming and resourceful environment that supports literacy, research skills, and critical thinking. The School Librarian will collaborate with teachers to integrate library services into the curriculum, promote information literacy, and curate a collection that meets the educational and recreational needs of students and staff. All candidates understand and accept the charism and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the philosophy and mission of Fontbonne, and the Personnel Handbook. Key Responsibilities: -Collection Development: Select, acquire, organize, and manage a diverse and current collection of print and digital resources that align with curriculum needs and student interests. Conduct regular inventory and maintenance of the library's collection, ensuring materials are up-to-date, relevant, and culturally inclusive. -Instruction and Collaboration: Collaborate with classroom teachers to design, implement, and teach library-based lessons and research projects that enhance the curriculum. Provide instruction on information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and ethical use of information to students and staff. Support classroom instruction by recommending and providing resources that complement lessons in various subject areas. -Technology Integration: Stay updated on emerging technologies and integrate digital tools and resources into the library space. Teach students and staff to navigate and use online databases, e-books, and other digital learning platforms effectively. Manage the library's digital resources, including subscriptions, online catalogs, and the library website. -Library Programming: Organize and host book clubs, reading challenges, author visits, and other literary events to engage students in reading for pleasure. Promote school-wide reading initiatives, such as National Library Week or summer reading programs. Offer workshops or resources for parents/guardians to encourage reading habits at home. -Library Management: Oversee the daily operations of the school library, including managing checkouts, returns, and shelving materials. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel comfortable and encouraged to explore resources. Oversee the library and student sign in / out and serve as library proctor as needed. Supervise and mentor student library assistants and volunteers, if applicable. -Program Administration: Manage the library budget. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on library usage and effectiveness. -Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in library science and education. Collaborate with other librarians and educational professionals to share ideas and resources. Advocacy and Outreach: Advocate for the library's role in the school's educational mission by communicating the value of library services to students, staff, and parents. Seek out and apply for grants to enhance the library's offerings, when appropriate. Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (preferred) or equivalent experience. Massachusetts certification as a school librarian (or eligibility for certification). Previous experience working in a school or public library setting, preferably in an educational environment. Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature, as well as digital literacy and research skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to create a warm, engaging, and student-centered library atmosphere. Proficiency in library management software, digital resource platforms, and educational techniques.
