This role is responsible for designing and estimating high-quality truss systems while providing leadership, training, and technical expertise to the design team. The ideal candidate is an experienced truss designer with strong project management and leadership skills, capable of working independently on complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and architectural plans to create accurate truss designs, layouts, and takeoffs.
- Utilize specialized software to design trusses that meet building codes, load requirements, and optimization principles.
- Act as a technical expert, providing guidance and troubleshooting design concerns with customers, architects, and engineers.
- Review and document changes to project plans, ensuring up-to-date information is maintained in project management systems.
- Maintain detailed project records, including notes, attachments, and documentation for tracking progress and ensuring accuracy.
- Assist with estimating by generating takeoffs and pricing proposals, including bid notes on project inclusions and exclusions.
- Provide support to internal teams, including sales, production, and field crews, ensuring seamless project execution.
- Check design work for accuracy and adherence to company best practices before submitting for production.
- Train and mentor junior designers, ensuring consistency in design practices and standards.
- Assist in managing workload distribution, project priorities, and scheduling within the design department.
- Participate in leadership discussions and provide input on process improvements and technical training initiatives.
- Conduct independent site visits as needed to support customers and address design challenges.
Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in truss design, with a strong background in residential projects.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency in truss design software (MiTek preferred).
- Strong knowledge of building codes, truss manufacturing, and framing practices.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and spatial reasoning skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify patterns and inconsistencies in designs.
- Ability to read and interpret structural blueprints and engineering documents.
- Advanced project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex design concepts clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Strong organizational skills with a commitment to maintaining accurate project records.
