POSITION TITLE
Dean of Students- High School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree desired
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience required. High school teaching experience preferred.
- Possess a valid Arizona teacher certification for the high school level: Possess a valid Arizona School Administrator certificate
- Demonstrated successful leadership ability.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with staff, administration, parents, and students in various types of situations.
- Competency in interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work with and coordinate the work of others.
- Understanding of needs of high school students.
- Understanding of the role of Dean in the context of the secondary school organization.
- Knowledge of restorative justice principles and practices and culturally responsive interventions that works in complement with traditional methods related to school discipline.
- Knowledge laws pertaining to education and the Students Rights and Responsibilities.
- Ability to provide proactive interventions and supports to support students’ academic achievement, personal and social development.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools and Governing Board may find appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Principal and Assistant Principal in supervising and maintaining the daily operation of the building.
- Serves as a member of a coordinated team comprised of building administrators, guidance staff,
health services personnel, security officers and attendance officers.
- Assists in therapeutic work with students and families who are experiencing barriers to successful school engagement.
- Assists in coordination of student supervision and student behavior management.
- Assist with individual student discipline process and decisions.
- Assists in the coordination and supervision of extra-curricular activities.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of emergency response procedures and drills.
- Assists with planning and facilitating professional development activities.
- Assists with the preparation of required District and State reports.
- Assist with the evaluation of professional and classified employees.
- Works with various social agencies to assist students and parents.
- Collaborates with security personnel.
- Works cooperatively with administration and guidance in dealing with students.
- Works on special assignments as required by principal or assistant principal.
- Maintains student attendance procedures in conjunction with administration and attendance officers and works toward improvement of attendance in school and in classes.
- Works with parents and staff in dealing with student concerns.
- Acts as a liaison between home and school and develops a rapport with parents that will assist in solving student problems.
- Assists in implementation of procedures for maintaining building discipline and control.
- Assists in implementation of all aspects of the School mission.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal
- Serves as the Building administrator as delegated
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an eleven (11) months exempt status position. The salary and work year will be established by the Governing Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
