What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at Tuff Automation?
Every project we design and build here, at Tuff Automation, are custom built for each customer. As a Controls Engineer, you own your project from design and programming, to installation.
We have an excellent reputation based on over 30 years of superior quality of our work. We work with any manufacturer seeking to automate their operations with unique, custom material handling systems, including OEMs, Tier 1, and Tier 2, suppliers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure that equipment is designed and programmed to customer and / or Tuff Automation build specifications, via using standard techniques and approaches, including, but not limited to :
Design and program HMIs
Conduct the electrical / hydraulic / pneumatic design
Peripheral device programming
Machine PLC programming
Coordinate the machine debug, power-up, and machine validation, with build and electrical teams
Travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and customer training of equipment
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related, is preferred, but not required
1-4 years of experience within an industrial controls environment which includes :
PLC programming (Rockwell Software preferred, Siemens software a plus)
HMI Programming (Factory Talk View preferred, Ignition a plus)
Input and output device design and implementation.
Industrial communication networks (EtherNet / IP, Devicenet, Profinet, etc.)
Electrical design and drawing creation
Equivalent work experience will also be considered as a substitute for education
Experience with VFDs preferred, networked a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office
Past on-the-job travel, and willingness to travel 20-25%, both domestic and int'l
SKILLS / ABILITIES
Self-motivated, self-aware, detail-oriented, and results-focused
Solid understanding of VFDs, induction motors, programmable logic controllers, and industrial networks
Carryout basic system implementations, enhancements, and retrofits
Open collaboration and communication with Tuff Automation team members, project managers, and customers, in a professional written and spoken manner
Product quality designs, drawings, programs, and documentation with minimal errors
Able to take direction from Sr. Level Controls Engineers, to support the project, and to ensure all aspects of project goals are achieved, individually, as a team, and as a company
