The Executive Director of Ambulatory Nursing Services has the overall responsibility for the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, patient safety, clinical quality outcomes, evidence-based practices, professional development of staff and nursing research for designated Ambulatory Services (Clinics). The Executive Director, Ambulatory Nursing Services reports and is accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Experience Officer and SVP, Patient Care Services for successful operations.
All Nursing Clinical Directors and Managers in the Ambulatory Care Areas (with exception of the CVC & OB & Cancer) have a direct reporting relationship to the Executive Director Ambulatory Nursing Services. Areas of exceptions will have a dotted line to the standards of Ambulatory Nursing Practice. The Executive Director of Ambulatory Services has the role of nurse leader within the service line leadership team and in full partnership with administrative and physician executives. The director facilitates collaborative professional relationships with all other disciplines and departments to ensure that all strategic program planning and execution of operations are fully integrated for care delivery. The director works collaboratively and under the direction of the SVP to ensure effective coordination of human, fiscal and material resources within all aspects of Ambulatory Nursing services. The director also works to move forward the strategic planning, goal setting, program development and establishment of outcomes and metrics for all related services lines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Together within the interdisciplinary team, sets the vision for the care of patients within the ambulatory setting, exploring best practice and implementing state of the art approaches to advance the health of those served.
- Works in step with the Center for Nursing Excellence to support advance practice nurses (APRNs) in meeting or exceeding all goals and to meet full compliance with all aspects of credentialing.
- Supports APRN practice development, research and engagement within the APRN council.
- Drives a culture of safety and fosters a healthy work environment where care teams thrive together with the leadership team.
- Fosters professional governance encouraging leadership and decision making at the clinical nurse level.
- Provides visible and effective leadership in the development of care programs, outcomes management, patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient access and throughput, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial outcomes.
- Serves as a member of the Nurse Executive Council.
- Serves as the nursing leader within the ambulatory service line.
- Serves as a leader in patient safety and quality within the service line and medical center.
- Collaborates with the departments of Quality and Risk Management to identify actual or potential risks and develops action plans.
- Collaborates with administrative and clinical colleagues in strategic planning and the development and evaluation of business plans, clinical programs and services.
- Accountable for all aspects of nursing programs of care and outcomes within the division.
- Guides and carries out the philosophy, goals and objectives of the department as well as the mission of the institution.
- Leads and implements standards of care and provides direction and consultation to others in developing policies for nursing practice.
- Ensures department compliance with regulations and participates in regulatory agency reviews.
- Leads the hiring process for all members of the nursing leadership team as appropriate ensuring they possess the values consistent with the health system.
- Assesses environmental needs, including the need for equipment and supplies and environmental concerns to support the delivery of safe, effective patient and family care.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration by partnering with other hospital departments to promote efficient, high quality, safe patient care.
- Works in full collaboration with the Director of Nursing Finance and the CNO to implement the approved budget, necessary resources for nursing, and controls variances.
- Serves on the Medical Center committees and task forces.
- Accepts responsibility for professional self-development.
- May perform other job-related duties as required or requested.

EDUCATION
- Masters Degree in Nursing
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
EXPERIENCE
- Progressive leadership experience at the managerial and director level. Minimum of 5 years of nurse leadership experience with demonstrated positive outcomes required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standard Office Environment within hospital facilities, with ability to travel to, and work from, multiple sites within Greater Boston area on a regular basis.
