Overview
The Tufts University School of Medicine’s Graduate Programs (TUSMGP) seeks a Graduate Assistant (GA) to support student engagement, programming, and community-building efforts across our diverse graduate student population. This position offers hands-on experience in student affairs, program development, assessment, social-identity development, and student-alumni engagement within a health sciences education setting.
The Office of Graduate Student Services (OGSS) supports more than 1,100 students across residential, hybrid, and fully remote graduate programs. The GA will work closely with the Director of Student Affairs and Student Services Coordinator to enhance student experiences, assess engagement, and contribute to inclusive programming for TUSMGP students.
This hybrid role requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week, which is divided into 1-2 remote workdays and 1-2 on-site days each week at Tufts University's Boston Health Sciences Campus, located in Chinatown. The pay rate for this position is $18 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Engagement, Identity Development & Programming
- Plan and support community-building events, student organization initiatives, and cultural programming for diverse student populations.
- Develop and implement programs that promote social-identity development and foster a sense of belonging for students from various backgrounds.
- Serve as a resource and liaison to Student Senate and TUSMGP student organizations, assisting with event planning, logistics, and communication.
- Assess student engagement trends and develop data-driven recommendations for future programming.
Student-Alumni Engagement
- Develop and implement student-alumni networking initiatives to foster meaningful connections between current students and alumni.
- Assist in organizing alumni panels, faculty mentorship programs, and networking events tailored for School of Medicine graduate program students.
Supervision & Academic Services Support
- Supervise a team of Student Test Proctors, managing scheduling, communication, and ensuring a seamless student testing experience.
- Serve as a point of contact for proctors and faculty to support academic integrity and exam logistics.
Oversight of the Student Lounge & Programming Space
- Manage the Student Lounge as a community space, ensuring it is welcoming, functional, and regularly utilized for programming.
- Oversee lounge operations, student access, and scheduled events, including wellness activities and informal gatherings.
Social Media & Digital Engagement
- Develop and implement social media strategies to enhance engagement, particularly for remote and hybrid students.
- Create digital content that highlights the student experience, programs, support resources, alumni connections, and community-building initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Graduate student in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Experience in student affairs, student engagement, social-identity development, event planning, or alumni relations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Experience or interest in supervising student workers or proctors.
- Familiarity with social media engagement strategies for student communities.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging within a diverse student body.
- Ability to think creatively and contribute new ideas for engagement and assessment.
