What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Support Mentor position at Tulane University?
The Parent Support Mentor provides education and supportive services to children and families in child protective services by providing peer-to-peer support and mentoring to biological parents to assist in the integration of family voice into children’s supportive services, policies, and practices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to observe/interact with children across the age range (0-18) and their parents/caregivers.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to provide support, education and encouragement to clients and family members.
- Ability to use personal experiences as a tool to support others.
- Demonstrated personal qualities that promote collaboration and partnerships with the child welfare system such as integrity, good listening skills, ability to empathize, and a positive attitude.
Required Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have a lived experience working with child protection services
- Must have reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in psychology/social work or related field
- A biological parent with prior lived experience with child protection services
- Spanish language fluency – oral and written
