Job Title: Scientist, Preformulation
π Location: Cambridge, MA
π Contract Length: 6 months
Job Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional candidate to contribute to preformulation research in a small, fast-paced, and highly collaborative team. This contract position is within the Formulation Sciences group of Technical Operations, supporting pre-clinical development.
The candidate will work full-time onsite and be responsible for executing laboratory activities related to the transition of novel small molecule compounds from Discovery into Development. The role directly supports pre-clinical and clinical programs.
An ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in analytical techniques such as UPLC/HPLC (Empower proficiency) and an understanding of early drug development processes and experiments. Experience in preformulation development and physicochemical characterization is highly desirable but not required.
Ideal Experience: 0-3 years in pharmaceutical sciences (preformulation, analytical, or formulation development).
Key Responsibilities:
βοΈ Prepare buffers and common lab solutions
βοΈ Execute analytical experiments using XRPD, DSC, TGA, DVS, optical microscopy, and UPLC/HPLC (Empower)
βοΈ Screen excipients/formulation vehicles for solubility and stability to optimize preclinical formulations for non-GLP and GLP preclinical studies
βοΈ Perform drug substance and formulation stability studies to ensure optimal formulation design
βοΈ Coordinate vehicle/formulation preparations for in vivo studies
βοΈ Maintain an accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory notebook
Qualifications:
π Education: BS degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutics, chemical engineering, or material sciences
π§ͺ Experience in the Discovery and Development interface (desirable but not required)
βοΈ Hands-on experience with common excipients and volumetric glassware
π₯οΈ Proficiency with UPLC/HPLC and Empower Software
π¬ Knowledge of and interest in small molecule and pre-clinical formulation development
