Job description
The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.
The Assistant (floater) supports the lead teacher in creating a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children. They assist with daily activities, classroom management, and fostering social, emotional, and cognitive development in alignment with the center’s curriculum and philosophy.
Duties and responsibilities
- Classroom Support and Child Development: Will assist in implementing lesson plans and activities; support children’s social and emotional growth through positive interactions and guidance; encourage independence and problem-solving skills in young learners.
- Supervision and Safety: Must maintain a safe and clean learning environment; supervise children during playtime, meals, rest periods and transitions; assist with diapering, toileting and hygiene routines as needed, ensure compliance with state and center safety regulations.
- Communication and Collaboration: Must be able to work collaboratively with the Lead teacher and other staff to provide consistent care and education.
- Classroom Organization and Management: Must be able to help set up and clean up classroom material and activities; maintain daily attendance and reports as needed.
Qualifications
- Willing to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM-6:30 PM for at least 6.5 hours a day at your employer’s discretion.
- At least 18 years’ old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Various combinations of college credits, experience and/or study plans.
- Willingness to obtain NYC training requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Stamina to interact with children at their level, including sitting on the floor and engaging in physical activities
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoors
Work Environment and Schedule
- May work with infants, toddlers, or preschool age children.
- Requires standing, lifting, and engaging in active play
Working Conditions
Special working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events needed.
Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
