School Bookkeeper
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma with training in secretarial and bookkeeping procedures.
2. Two (2) years experience in related and comparable field.
REPORTS TO:
Principal
SUPERVISES:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of procedures, practices and operation of an elementary/secondary school office.
2. Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
3. Good mathematical and office practice skills, including clear, polite telephone communication skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to operate computers, word processors and peripheral equipment and to utilize a variety of software and databases.
5. Ability to work harmoniously with students, educational staff and administration and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
7. Demonstrate keyboarding skills to produce a minimum of 50 words per minute.
8. Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights.
9. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
JOB GOAL:
To provide general secretarial and bookkeeping services needed to insure the smooth operation of the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts routine bookkeeping tasks such as receiving, keeping receipts, depositing and accounting for all funds for the school in accordance with the Alabama Local school Accounting Procedures.
2. Provides routine secretarial support for the principal and other staff members.
3. Makes routine financial and other reports as required.
4. Issues checks for approved purchases and other items approved by the principal.
5. Prepares payrolls for all employees assigned to the school (teachers, lunchroom workers, bus drivers for field trips, janitorial staff, etc.).
6. Provides administrative supervision for field trips.
7. Prepares purchase orders and other documents related to the procurement of materials and supplies.
8. Handles the student insurance program if applicable.
9. Establishes and maintains good public relations with the community, parents and school visitors.
10. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and length of contract to be determined by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
