Job Summary
In keeping with the President’s commitment to Tuskegee University demonstrating “Excellence in Every Way,” the ideal Academic Advisor, Liberal Studies will be able to assist in the daily operations and management of the Dean’s Office and in alignment with the Office of the President.
Essential Job Duties
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate student services, resources, workshops, and programs for selected constituencies across campus
- Play crucial role in a unique network of relationships by linking professional school admissions boards, faculty, staff, and students with information, resources, programs, and services relevant to their specialized career goals
- Advise students on their academic curricula and make suggestions based on one-on-one interaction with the student
- Assist students with course selection, student planning, university requirements, and understanding of policies
- Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar regarding the current year’s graduating class
- Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar’s regarding student compliance
- Follow up with students on academic progress
- Ensure enrollment of freshman, Transfer, and sophomores in Student Planning
- Monitor and document student progress in Student Planning
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Master’s level education from an accredited institution
- Experience in academic advising.
- Experience working with students with a range of academic abilities
Additional preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in academic advising.
Physical Demands
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to walk short distances
- Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
- Ability to view a computer terminal
Skills and Attributes
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a large, culturally diverse faculty and undergraduate population.
- Strong team orientation and ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents.
