What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Engineer Ropeway position at TUV SUD America?
Position Summary
The function of the Chief Engineer in the Ropeways department of the Amusement Rides, Water Parks and Ropeways Division for North America is to be the primary person responsible for the execution and approval of technical reviews, inspections, audits, and consultation for ropeway and ropeway systems (e.g. ski lifts, urban transport systems, etc.).
The Chief Engineer shall be responsible for performing reviews of the technical documents for new ropeway systems in North America and the approval of reviews and reports performed by others for any ropeway systems destined for the North American market or that are designed in accordance with the ANSI B77 standard and other relevant national and international standards. They shall be responsible for the technical training and development of any additional personnel hired into the department including developing relevant qualification matrices for performance of specific job duties and obtaining local, national and/or international accreditation for the TUV SUD America Ropeways group. They shall engage with the Lead Auditor, Amusement Ride and relevant TUV SUD America Quality Management Teams to develop the systems and processes to be used by our auditing and inspection teams in the conduct of their work.
The Chief Engineer shall possess qualifications with relevant accreditation bodies and will continuously work to expand their and the department's knowledge and certifications to industry standards and norms. The Chief Engineer shall be a licensed Professional Engineer and be willing to expand their license to additional states.
The Chief Engineer, Ropeways shall work with the Director, AR Department and the technical leads from Ropeways departments within the worldwide TUV SUD group in the development of programs to expand the services that TUV SUD can offer to clients. They shall serve as the primary point of contact for new ropeway projects for North America until the capacity of the department is expanded with qualified talent. Through expert knowledge and a keen understanding of North American directives and regulations, along with international standards in the ropeway industry, the Chief Engineer, Ropeways ensures that TUV SUD is represented as the most competent service provider in the industry.
Regular domestic and some international travel is required.
Responsibilities
Represent TUV SUD to industry through coordination of expert resources, representation at relevant industry events, and efficient delivery of complete portfolio of TUV SUD services
Provide expert analysis and consultation at the initial stage of projects
Become an internal advocate for the defined business segment(s) to ensure management and experts are aware of the specific needs and nuances of the industry
Grow revenue with existing ropeway customers by positioning and delivering new or additional services, including through strategic internal partnerships such as the TUV SUD Academy
Grow revenue for the division with new ropeway customers
Coordinate global and regional resources according to client's requirements
Be the technical lead and engineering signatory for all North American ropeway projects
Provide cross-utilization expertise to Amusement Rides projects as appropriate and needed
Education
Bachelor's Degree in technical field (engineering, physics, chemical, ...) required
Registered Professional Engineer, current
Specific Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
10 years ropeway experience
5-10 years of experience working with technical regulations, standards, directives
A demonstrated ability to lead new initiatives
A demonstrated ability to manage employees
