Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced medical environment. This role involves direct patient care, assisting healthcare providers with examinations and procedures, and managing essential office tasks to ensure smooth operations. Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support:
- Prepare patients for examinations, record vital signs, and assist healthcare providers during medical procedures.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by the physician, while ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens, and ensure proper handling and documentation.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment, ensuring it is clean and functioning properly.
- Assist with minor surgical procedures, as needed, following strict adherence to aseptic techniques.
Administrative Duties:
- Greet and check-in patients, verify patient information, and update records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and handle basic inquiries through phone and in-person communications.
- Process and file insurance claims, maintain documentation, and ensure accurate billing information is recorded.
- Maintain and organize patient medical files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Patient Interaction & Education:
- Educate patients on pre- and post-treatment instructions and answer basic health-related questions.
- Provide support and compassionate care, ensuring patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
- Follow-up with patients as needed, ensuring they have received appropriate care and information.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Participate in team meetings and continuous education sessions to stay updated on best practices in patient care and medical technology.
- Assist with quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas to enhance patient services.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, RMA, or CCM) is highly desirable.
- Additional certifications in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced certifications a plus.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical or outpatient setting is preferred but apply regardless.
- Demonstrated experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing practices is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong clinical knowledge with the ability to perform routine medical procedures effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact empathetically with patients and efficiently with staff members.
- High level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and other legal requirements.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and experience with scheduling/billing software.
