POSITION SUMMARYTwin Cities PBS ("TPT") is currently hiring for part-time intermittent Audio Engineers. This role works to coordinate and execute sound recording in field and studio productions. This is an IBEW Union position. Candidates are scheduled as needed, based on project needs.Work Environment : Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office.Rate of Pay : This role is paid per the IBEW union scale with a minimum of $29.50 / hour.Benefits : Employees in this role are eligible to participate in company retirement savings plan.MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBLITYFIELD AUDIO (60% of time)Using TPT's field recording equipment, capture audio in the field for use in a wide variety of television content; ensure that all audio meets TPT's high production standards and supports the project's needs Operate field recorders, mixers, microphones, booms, time code generators, slates and related audio gear; apply mastery of the equipment and techniques to ensure the best possible productConsult with producers about the production's technical and aesthetic requirements; advise producers on the best decisions to achieve productions goalsAssess the acoustics of the production area, share insights and ideas with the producer and operate the necessary equipment to determine the sound requirements and results Collaborate with the production team to ensure all audio needs are fulfilled STUDIO AUDIO (30% of time)Operate mixing console and related equipment for live productions, including broadcast television, live events, and music performances; apply mastery of the equipment and techniques to ensure the best possible productPlace and operate microphones for optimum sound transmission for recording or live mixingOperate IFB, comm systems, and other studio-based audio tools used in productionRecord multitrack sound for postproductionTroubleshoot and fix technical challenges to the transmission of the audio signalProfessionally and appropriately communicate with talent, performers, crew members, and guests to TPTOTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (10% of time)Participate as an active member of the Production Services team; contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities Monitor the condition of technical facilities; report needed maintenance and recommend upgrades / improvements that would improve performanceComplete all production-related paperwork (e.g. work-order sign-offs, repair requests, audio reports, etc.)Keep abreast of technical developments related to audio productionRequired ExperienceHigh School DiplomaMinimum 3 years experience in professional audio mixing and field recording Preferred ExperienceBachelor's DegreeMinimum 5 years experience in professional audio sweetening and field recordingKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Expert ability to operate audio recording equipment and related gear (e.g. mixing consoles, digital recorders, microphones, playback equipment, timecode generators, electronic slates, etc.) Expert knowledge of sound recording and sound transmissionStrong audio communication skills; ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team membersStrong focus on audience and end user needs; ability to collaborate with content personnel on project expectationsStrong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environmentExcellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skillsCommitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) priorities within the organization Ability to travel to locations in the greater metro area on a frequent basis; occasional travel throughout Minnesota and outside the state Equal Opportunity Employer / Protected Veterans / Individuals with Disabilities The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
