JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in administrative support technology, Business or Office Technology preferred.
Medical terminology experience recommended.
Proficient in use of software programs.
Excellent customer service and telephone skills a must.
Required Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.
Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.
Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
Ability to work varying shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Customer Service—Meet and greet patients and families.
Obtain accurate demographic and financial information.
Explain treatment and responsibilities forms.
Verify insurance benefits, eligibility, and obtain insurance authorizations when necessary.
Obtain patient’s orders and requests. Review each for proper diagnosis.
Uses interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, patients, and families.
Participates in department meetings and attends all other required meetings.
Collect deposits, co-pays, and deductibles.
Obtains authorizations when necessary.
Maintains log, to include EMTALA log prior to end of shift.
Educates patients/families regarding patient rights, advance directives, and distributes patient guides.
Provide coverage for switchboard duties when necessary.
