Job Overview:
Twin Oaks Center seeks a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our dedicated team. The Activities Assistant will work closely with the Activities Director to plan, organize, and implement engaging recreational and therapeutic activities for our residents. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Activity Planning:
Collaborate with the Activities Director to develop, plan, and execute diverse recreational and therapeutic activities for residents based on their individual needs, preferences, and abilities.
Help customize activity plans for residents with special needs, including those with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other age-related conditions.
Incorporate seasonal events, holidays, and cultural celebrations into the activity calendar.
- Facilitate Activities:
Lead individual and group activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, music therapy, chair exercises, cognitive games, and social events.
Ensure activities are engaging and adapted to meet each resident's physical and cognitive abilities.
Encourage residents to participate actively, ensuring they feel valued and included.
- Provide Assistance During Activities:
Assist residents with mobility, positioning, dressing, or other physical needs during activities.
Provide support with feeding or any necessary personal care, ensuring residents' comfort and safety during activity participation.
- Promote Social Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with residents to foster an environment of trust, respect, and companionship.
Encourage residents to interact with one another during group activities and help form connections among residents.
- Monitor and Document Resident Participation:
Keep accurate records of residents' participation and monitor their reactions to activities.
Provide feedback and observations to the Activities Director to ensure activities are tailored to the resident's needs.
Maintain daily logs, progress reports, and any necessary documentation related to activity involvement.
- Plan Special Events:
Assist in organizing and executing special events such as birthday parties, holiday gatherings, seasonal festivities, and community outings.
o Help decorate and prepare for events and assist with the logistics on the day of the event to ensure smooth execution.
Actively participate in celebrations and help ensure residents have a memorable experience.
- Provide Emotional Support:
Offer a caring, empathetic presence for residents needing emotional support or companionship during activities.
Recognize residents needing additional attention and provide comfort during challenging moments.
- Collaborate with Other Team Members:
Work closely with nursing staff, dietary staff, and other departments to ensure residents' activity schedules align with their medical needs and routines.
o Attend staff meetings, share insights, and contribute ideas for improving resident engagement and overall programming.
- Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment:
Ensure that activity areas are clean, organized, and safe for residents to participate in activities.
Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of residents during activity times.

Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Further education in recreation therapy, gerontology, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience working with elderly individuals, particularly in a healthcare setting, is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
o Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with Abilityidents, families, and staff.
o A positive attitude with a passion for working with seniors.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Creativity and flexibility in organizing and adapting activities.
o Basic understanding of dementia, Alzheimer's, and other common age-related conditions is a plus.
o Ability to assist residents with Ability mobility, if necessary, and participate in physical activities.
- Physical Requirements:
o Ability to lift light objects (e., Abilityivity materials) and assist with mobility or positioning of residents as needed.
o Ability to engage in physical activities alongside residents, such as chair exercises or walking groups.
