Purpose and Scope of the Role:
- To manage day to day accounting
- To monitor accounting records for accuracy and for items needing management’s attention
- To provide financial advice to management
- To monitor and assist management with annual budget preparation
- To be responsible for taxes and for government reporting
- To manage payroll and benefits accounting for all US staff
- To be responsible for backing up the Regional Controller
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide accounting instructions to staff, as needed
- Prepare or supervise preparation of recurring monthly journal entries
- Keep account analyses current and make necessary adjustments
- Facilitate monthly close process
- Monitor actual versus budget reports and investigate variances
- Monitor and record investment activity
- Manage accounting for trusts, gift annuities, and other planned giving instruments
- Work with International Controller on audit and audit footnote preparation
- Provide financial advice to management
- Perform final review and approval of cash disbursements by check and ACH transfer
- Oversee payroll, sales, and other taxes and government reporting
- Monitor grants made to TWR’s partner organizations and oversee related reporting
- Oversee payroll and benefits accounting and perform final review of payroll before payment
- Provide reports and analyses related to the annual budget cycle
- Supervise monthly billing cycle activity
- Supervise monthly bank reconciliations
- Reconcile donations to the donor system
- Monitor and test internal controls
- Document accounting procedures, as needed
- Prepare and/or review period-end reports

Experience Requirements:

- Experience with General Ledger non-profit software

- MS Office Applications & Internet Usage
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to travel internationally (less than 20%)
- Must be able to work between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, with additional hours as required
- Must be able to work at a computer for extended time periods
