Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Assistant Controller located in Cary, NC. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for day-to-day financial tasks, including but not limited to financial reporting, budget analysis, and internal controls. They will also assist with financial audits and strategic financial planning.
Purpose and Scope of the Role:
- To manage day to day accounting
- To monitor accounting records for accuracy and for items needing management’s attention
- To provide financial advice to management
- To monitor and assist management with annual budget preparation
- To be responsible for taxes and for government reporting
- To manage payroll and benefits accounting for all US staff
- To be responsible for backing up the Regional Controller
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide accounting instructions to staff, as needed
- Prepare or supervise preparation of recurring monthly journal entries
- Keep account analyses current and make necessary adjustments
- Facilitate monthly close process
- Monitor actual versus budget reports and investigate variances
- Monitor and record investment activity
- Manage accounting for trusts, gift annuities, and other planned giving instruments
- Work with International Controller on audit and audit footnote preparation
- Provide financial advice to management
- Perform final review and approval of cash disbursements by check and ACH transfer
- Oversee payroll, sales, and other taxes and government reporting
- Monitor grants made to TWR’s partner organizations and oversee related reporting
- Oversee payroll and benefits accounting and perform final review of payroll before payment
- Provide reports and analyses related to the annual budget cycle
- Supervise monthly billing cycle activity
- Supervise monthly bank reconciliations
- Reconcile donations to the donor system
- Monitor and test internal controls
- Document accounting procedures, as needed
- Prepare and/or review period-end reports
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable in the Budgeting Process
- Knowledgeable in Management Reporting
- Knowledgeable in Internal Controls and Accounting Standards
- Knowledgeable in International Accounting Practices & Procedures
- Experience with General Ledger non-profit software
- Team Building, Motivating, Analytical Skills, Communication & Interpersonal Skills, Leadership Skills
- MS Office Applications & Internet Usage
- Must be able to work between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, with additional hours as required
- Must be able to work at a computer for extended time periods
- Must read, write, speak and comprehend fluent English
- Current CPA or working toward certification
- Agreement with TWR’s International Doctrinal and Position Statements
