Description The Part-Time Laboratory Specialist, Biology is a part-time position responsible to the Department Chair, Life Sciences and Dean, School of Engineering, Mathematics & Sciences. Essential Functions and Duties Facilitate laboratories in the Life Sciences through well prepared, organized and engaged instruction with students in the learning environmentMeeting all scheduled labs for the entire scheduled timeKeeping accurate records of students' attendance and gradesProvide support to students via timely communicationWorking cooperatively with other members of the faculty and staff in an effort to contribute to overall instructional effectivenessMaintaining a lab environment that is safe and conducive to student successCompetenciesKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of and experience with standard laboratory equipmentMust be student-centered in methodology and classroom procedures and have excellent communication skillsMust have the ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals Qualifications Required Education / Experience Bachelor's degree required with coursework in the Biological SciencesPreferred Education / ExperienceExperience as a laboratory assistant, teaching assistant or laboratory technician preferred Supplemental Information Other ExpectationsPerform other duties as assignedWill have contact - in person, by email, or by phone - with staff, students, and the general publicMust exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilitiesNOTE : With or without reasonable accommodation, the individual in this position must possess the competencies and must be able to perform the essential functions and duties of the job as described above - including essential tasks requiring specific physical demands.
