Description
The Redshirt Coach, Football is a full-time professional position based at Tyler Junior College. The position will report to the Head Coach, Football. The primary objective of the position is the development and implementation of the "Red Shirt" athlete program for students wanting to participate in intercollegiate athletics.
Essential Functions and Duties
The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
- Teaching activity courses such as Athletic Conditioning and Advanced Weight Training to the "Red Shirt" athletes.
- Coaching the "Developmental (Red Shirt) Sports Team".
- Evaluating students/players based on progress made in the following areas: academic performance, citizenship, athletic ability, and work ethic.
- Recruiting students/players to Tyler Junior College form area high schools including corresponding with targeted students/players their coaches and parents.
- Assisting the head coach and assistant coaches in training, sports events, practices, and assessment of performance of the intercollegiate team and red shirt athletes.
- Assisting in the analysis and game plan formulation for each opponent.
- Assisting incoming freshman with any and all procedures for admitting and enrolling at the College.
- Monitoring academic progress and study sessions of student athletes.
- Supervising the student athletes on the practice field and in the weight room.
- Providing major input in deciding which Red Shirt athletes to promote to the intercollegiate team.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Knowledge of special populations to be served, higher education, and academic practices highly preferred.
- Some experience in counseling/advising at the secondary or college level highly preferred.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and writing skills).
- Computer technology skills required.
- Bilingual communication skills preferred.
