Description

As a TJC work-study student at PATH, you will assist in various administrative and operational tasks to support our mission. Responsibilities may include helping in the food pantry, assisting with reception duties, organizing donations, data entry, and providing support to caseworkers. This role offers an opportunity to develop professional skills while contributing to meaningful work that directly impacts the community.

Essential Functions and Duties

Primary Responsibilities

1. Food Pantry Support

  • Shopper: Assist families in selecting pantry items, maintain a calm and compassionate atmosphere, and record incoming donations. Physical requirements include walking, stooping, standing, and reaching.
  • Carry Out: Help customers transport their pantry items to their vehicles while offering friendly interaction. Assist with projects and record donations as needed. Physical requirements include walking, stooping, standing, and reaching.
  • Stocker: Organize, sort, and stock pantry items, including freezers and shelves. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pantry and storeroom. This role is more physically demanding, involving walking, lifting, stooping, and reaching.

2. Reception Duties

  • Welcome clients and visitors with kindness and professionalism.
  • Verify service eligibility and assist new clients in completing intake forms.
  • Stay updated on PATH services and refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.
  • Always maintain client confidentiality.
  • Utilize minimal computer skills to manage client information.

3. Casework

  • Meet one-on-one with clients to assess their needs and connect them to PATH services.
  • Collect and document necessary data using Charity Tracker software.
  • Provide direct assistance through service vouchers and referrals to other community resources.
  • Work with the Emergency Services Case Manager for cases requiring special consideration.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff and other volunteers
  • A minimal amount of computer literacy is helpful
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

Work Environment: Work required outside of normal business hours

Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, lifting

Travel Required: Minimal, if any. If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Reports to: PATH Volunteer Coordinator

Qualifications

Students must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain enrollment status to work in these positions. Students may qualify for Federal Work Study, which will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Supplemental Information

Students are allowed to work a maximum of eighteen (18) hours per week and cannot work in multiple hourly positions. The work week is Monday through Thursday, with available shifts anytime between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM on those days.
