Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist, Liver Programs
Typewriter Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and resourceful scientist with extensive experience in liver biology. The successful candidate will lead/oversee the execution of internal liver program(s). She/he will be pushing the boundaries of our proprietary gene delivery technology within the realm of liver diseases. This role presents a unique opportunity to explore the multifaceted applications of gene writing for liver disease, paving the way for novel therapeutic avenues/novel therapeutic programs and for potential partnerships that could redefine the landscape of genetic medicine. The successful candidate will oversee the execution of liver program-related activities, from target identification, target validation, drug candidate nomination and regulatory filings. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and energetic scientist with superior communication skills, who can establish and ultimately lead a cross-functional lab-based team running multiple projects, act as scientific leader and seek and establish novel methods and processes to enhance projects across the Liver Disease Research area. Reporting to the Sr. Princ Sci, Gene Therapy, this position has vast learning opportunities in the field of permanent gene insertion into the genome, while working in a fast-paced cross-functional team setting.
Position Responsibilities
Contribute to the Liver Therapeutics strategy
Lead the execution of internal liver programs and develop the path to candidate, including Go/no-go decision, from target identification, validation (on and off target), in vitro and in vivo proof-of-principle for program-related gene delivery reagents.
Manage the work of others directly as well as in a matrixed structure.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders across Typewriter Therapeutics including but not limited to the molecular, cell biology, nonclinical, bioanalytical, CMC and formulation teams
Critically analyze data generated to inform scientific program strategy, program decisions and subsequent stages of drug development
Oversee group communication of study results to the project teams and to internal and external stake holders
Support evaluation of BD opportunities and patent filling
Act as a scientific mentor and role model, supporting the Typewriter Therapeutics culture
Qualifications
PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology or related degrees, with 8 years of relevant experience or BS/MS with 15 years of relevant experience in similar life sciences-related field
Experience in drug discovery research with demonstrated proficiency in liver diseases
Expertise in one therapeutic modality required (Gene editing or gene therapy) and familiarity with other modalities a plus
Expertise in design and overseeing execution of in vitro pharmacology studies in relevant cell types for the evaluation of drug candidates for the treatment of liver diseases.
Expertise in designing and validating cell-based biochemical, enzymatic assays is required
Knowledge of animal models of liver disease, such rare monogenic liver diseases
Experience with molecular analysis of in vitro and in vivo gene insertion outcomes using next-generation sequencing, long range sequencing, quantitative PCR, and RNA sequencing is a plus
Experience in managing direct reports and setting team priorities
