Summary About the Position : Supervise the reporting of information received providing situational awareness to the command, USSOUTHCOM and the Department of the Army. Perform internal / external staff coordination on actions concerning Natural Disasters and Emergency Relief Operations. Point of contact with HQ DA; USSOUTHCOM; Embassies in foreign countries throughout USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility, civil and federal agencies; other Army MACOMs; and subordinate commands during non-duty hours. Responsibilities Provide input into the Global Command and Control System (GCCS) Manager to ensure operational requirements are identified and implemented. Initiate action to inform Watch Chief, Current Operations Division, Watch Officer, Command Group, and other staff members of situations that are potential crisis areas. Responsible for maintaining communications capabilities of all US Army South Emergency Operation Center (EOC) activities ensuring that both primary and alternate means of communications are operational. Ensure no unauthorized access to Emergency Operation Center area and that all escorts are provided as required. Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes experience working in an Operation Center; assisting with preparing daily Operations Briefs; supporting Operation Center staff during crisis incidents; ensuring reports and messages are distributed properly for action and situational awareness. Experience monitoring the commitment of resources based on contingency plans and assisting in the coordination of active component, National Guard, and other federal agencies in civil defense, natural disasters, and domestic emergencies. Experience supervising the processing of classified and unclassified operational message traffic; monitoring the execution of the command's emergency mission support; and the deployment and redeployment of forces during conditions of civil defense, natural disaster and emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education : Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
