What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, National Network Operations Center position at U.S. Cellular?
The National Network Operations Center Manager position is responsible for the remote restoration and monitoring of the UScellular wireless voice & data network. This position leads a technically diverse team of 10 to 12 associates responsible for monitoring UScellular®'s operational network in a Tier 1 & 2 environment on a 24x7x365 basis. This position owns, manages and maintains the operational policies of UScellular®'s Engineering organization governed through OLA and SLA. The NNOC Manager is the second point of escalation for the Operations Center and its external partners.
- Provide leadership for the NNOC Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams to achieve superior business results. Establish and drive a culture of accountability and trust that creates engaged associates passionately. These Associates should be focused on providing a superior network for our customers though the values and behaviors of the company!
- Lead and advise multi-functional UScellular® leadership teams, internal and external business partners as well as vendors in resolution of service disruptions within specified timelines. Ensure the highest network availability and reliability by maintaining effective monitoring and restoration of the wireless voice and data network remotely, which includes CDMA, 1X, EVDO, LTE, VoLTE and various backhaul technologies including Ethernet, IP Microwave, and TDM, Mobile Switching Centers, and all related elements and components of the (wireless) network.
- Drive network reliability and availability improvements utilizing tools and analysis from platforms such as ETA Direct, Remedy, Netcool, NECOM, WNG, Operations dashboards, etc. Oversee and preserve all aspects of the National NOC including connectivity management, element management and integration, network performance, tools, and NNOC processes and procedures. Perform as the second escalation level for critical incidents and events affecting the UScellular® operational network.
- Communicate with C-level executives, shareholders, regulatory agencies, and internal partners on network status and restoration actions. Manage and maintain personnel schedules to ensure adequate shift coverage for a 24x7x365 Tier 2 environment.
- Develop associates through informal and formal training and provide career guidance. Evaluate and select personnel to ensure the efficient operation of specific NNOC functions!
Qualifications - External
5 - 8 years wireless telecommunications, data networking, or operations required. 3 - 5 years leadership experience required. Bachelor's Degree in relevant field is preferred.
Extensive knowledge of wireless telecommunications, digital networks and data networks is required. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communications and complex problem solving. Excellent verbal and written skills; including experience with developing and presenting presentations up to C-Level Executives are required.
