This position is located in United States Coast Guard (USCG), Data Analytics Division of the Office of Data & Analytics (OD&A), in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet the following to satisfy the basic education requirement for Data Scientist.
A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement as described above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-14 level: One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience includes managing software development for a major project or system initiative involving new or unexplored areas of system theory data structures; overseeing the development of integrated systems; developing software systems using knowledge of techniques, procedures, and processes such as operation system theory data structures.

Responsibilities:
As a senior Data Scientist, you will serve as a subject matter expert on current analytical tools and techniques and as an advisor to the OD&A, USCG lines of business, operational commands and analytics teams on applying advanced analytics to some of the most difficult challenges within the USCG.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Working in collaboration with a cross-functional team of data analysts, data scientists, privacy specialists, and data governance professionals to identify the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems.
- Translating complex technical findings into an easily understood narrative (i.e., tell a story with data).
- Preparing comprehensive reports that include an assessment of dimensions of data quality, standards applied for ethical and privacy review, and explanation of the methods, results, and relevance to the problem statement.
- Serving as a senior expert and source of guidance on the proper use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques, and guides the development, deployment, and updating of ML models across a number of applications and domains.
- Performing AI research/engineering outreach to ensure best ML modeling practices are used in AI solution design/product development, to include an understanding of AI technology maturity, newly emerging methods, and other state-of-the-art capabilities.
Salary : $132,368 - $172,075
