What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Student Volunteer, Summer 2025 position at U.S. Department of Justice?
The U.S. Marshals Service's (USMS) Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides legal services and guidance to all headquarters and field components of the USMS. Legal matters addressed by OGC include issues related to judicial security, fugitive apprehension, prisoner transportation, asset seizure and forfeiture, government ethics, administrative law, and civil litigation.
As the federal agency whose mission is to ensure the fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans, the Department of Justice is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. To build and retain a workforce that reflects the diverse experiences and perspectives of the American people, we welcome applicants from the many communities, identities, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities, religions, and cultures of the United States who share our commitment to public service.
USMS's OGC offers interns the opportunity to work closely with its attorneys, performing assignments similar to those the attorneys perform on a regular basis. Interns will receive substantive assignments in OGC's diverse practice areas, with a focus on administrative law (EEO matters) and civil litigation (Tort and Bivens claims). Interns can expect to conduct research, draft motions and pleadings, interact with agency officials, and perform other assignments as required. The internship is in-person, with telework on an ad hoc basis.
First- and second-year law students; selectees must pass a suitability and background investigation; available for a minimum of 6 weeks during the summer (8 weeks preferred).
Please submit a cover letter, resume, transcript (official or unofficial), and writing sample (max. 10 pages) by January 10, 2025. We anticipate conducting interviews via Teams.
