The General Counsel's Office (GCO) is a component of the EOUSA in the Department of Justice and is responsible for providing a full range of legal advice and services to the 94 United States Attorney's Offices (USAOs) throughout the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. GCO provides timely and accurate legal advice and litigation support to USAOs and EOUSA on a wide range of legal issues including disciplinary or adverse actions, performance management issues, and any other employment-related issues; litigation before various administrative tribunals; government ethics matters, such as conflicts of interest, recusals, outside activities, and financial disclosure reports; questions concerning recusals of USAOs from pending cases or matters; property damage claims filed by Federal employees; and procurement and fiscal law issues.

Interns will assist Assistant General Counsels (AGC) with preparing to respond to document production requests, written witness questionnaires, and legal research for draft pleadings in federal administrative proceedings. Interns will also work with AGCs on a variety of subject matters such as ethics, standards of conduct, and employment law. Interns will work with an attorney who will provide specific guidance and direction.
First-year (second semester) and second and third-year law students with strong academic record. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited law school at least half-time. Law school graduates are not eligible. Students interested in administrative law; federal employment law, or litigation are encouraged to apply. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours/week for 14 weeks during the academic semester or 6-8 weeks in the summer.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Due to the nature of the work performed at EOUSA, applicants who are offered an internship with EOUSA must pass a required background investigation before beginning employment.
