Physician Assistant Job Description
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. To be eligible, you must meet specific individual requirements and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
The approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after reviewing your EDRP application.
Basic Requirements
- A Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant
- Prior completion of Physician Assistant training through a qualified educational institution and course work meeting the guidelines set forth in VA Handbook 5005

Physician Assistant Career Advancement
Physician Assistant-I (PA-I)
This is the entry-level position for PAs.
Physician Assistant-II (PA-II)
You will analyze and solve more complex medical problems than at the entry level grade and participate in team problem solving.
Physician Assistant-III (PA-III)
This is the full-performance level for PAs, who lead and organize patient care independently, practice within multidisciplinary teams, and coordinate all aspects of patient care across the healthcare system.
Individuals can demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this level by completing a postgraduate residency program sponsored by the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other accredited programs.
Preferred Experience
We prefer candidates with experience in Primary Care clinic settings.
Travel Requirements
You may be required to travel to various Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
