What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Manager of Project Controls position at U.S. Engineering?
Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
- Lead the development and execution of advanced project control processes across the organization, ensuring standardization and integration within all regional divisions.
- Provide high-level strategic oversight of project schedules, ensuring that all projects are aligned with company-wide objectives and timelines.
- Serve as the primary liaison between project managers, project development managers, and senior leadership to ensure alignment on project goals, risks, and performance metrics.
- Oversee the preparation, evaluation, and continuous monitoring of project schedules, ensuring critical path management, cost/resource loading, and accurate schedule reporting for all major projects.
- Advise and mentor project teams in the application of work breakdown structures (WBS), cost tracking, and schedule formats, fostering consistency and excellence across all projects.
- Lead the integration of budgeted costs and resource data into project schedules, with a focus on optimizing project timelines and resource allocation.
- Conduct high-level analysis of project variances in cost and schedule performance, identifying trends, risks, and recommending corrective actions to senior management.
- Lead the preparation and dissemination of complex project status reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity for senior management, clients, and project partners.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the effectiveness of project controls systems and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for CPM scheduling methodologies, providing oversight for all construction schedules and ensuring compliance with contractual and client requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of specialty schedules, project labor forecasts, and/or cash flows reports.
Management Responsibility:
- Supervisor – responsible for hiring, performance management and pay administration for subordinates.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent field experience in project controls or construction management may be considered.
- 12 years of progressive experience in project controls, with specific expertise in managing large-scale, multi-project programs within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Broad knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems and experience in various business sectors of mechanical contracting involving various project contract delivery methods.
- Experience with the management, control, forecasting, and trending of cost and labor budgets.
- Must be willing to participate in on-going continuing education and the pursuit of appropriate credentials beneficial to the overall competency of the company.
- Possession of the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) International’s Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) credential is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strategic thinking
- Advanced communication skills to effectively present complex information.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to oversee cost forecasting, budget performance, and risk management strategies.
- Proficiency in project management software (Asta Powerproject, Primavera P6, etc.) and advanced capabilities with Microsoft Office tools for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
- Ability to adapt effectively to changing priorities and deliver results.
Physical and/or travel demands:
- Work will be done in a combination of office and job site environments.
- Project needs may require travel, temporary assignment, or relocation.
- Physical demands include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and lifting. Positions include sitting and standing, use of telephone, keyboard, and computer monitor.
Benefits and compensation:
- The range for this position has been established at $115,840 and $163,625 and is US Engineering Innovations good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
