The VC Delegated Design Engineer is responsible for developing, managing, and analyzing 3D models that integrate MEP systems with steel structural components. This role requires a deep understanding of MEP systems, structural integration with steel elements, and point load analysis. The modeler/engineer will collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction professionals to ensure that designs meet project specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:   
  • 3D Modeling and Design:
    • Collaborate with VC Leads and maintain detailed BIM models for MEP systems using Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks.
    • Conduct design calculations and analyses to ensure compliance with industry standards and innovative design solutions.
    • Develop 3D models and drawings to support project specific shape steel requirements (Skid Frames, Multitrade Rack Frames, stanchion supports etc…)
  • Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Coordinate delegated design scope with architects, structural engineers, and project management team members to ensure accurate, clash-free designs.
    • Attend frequent coordination meetings to resolve technical issues and ensure alignment with delegated design intents.
    • Coordinate with specific project management teams regarding project specific point load calculations.
    •  Determine means of engineering stamp and approval protocols
  • Point Load Analysis:
    • Conduct and integrate point load calculations from BIM models, communicating results effectively to team members.
    • Coordinate in time with project VC Leads during point load modeling efforts. 
  • Documentation and Review:
    • Documentation of engineering stamp and approval protocols
    • Produce comprehensive design documents, including drawings and reports, reflecting accurate design intent and update models as needed.
    • Document imperative information related to site specific point load calculations and or delegated design requirements
  • Quality Assurance and Control:
    • Review models for compliance with specifications, conducting quality checks for accuracy and integrity.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide support and guidance to project teams on MEP and steel integration, addressing design and site issues.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, and regulations, incorporating safety considerations throughout.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current on industry trends and best practices, engaging in professional development and process improvement initiatives.
Job Scope:  This role involves working on complex projects that require precise integration of MEP and structural elements, impacting overall project delivery through quality design, analysis, and coordination. The engineer/modeler will manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet deadlines.
 
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years related experience
 Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Proficiency with BIM software like Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks.
  • Deep understanding of MEP systems, structural integration, and point load analysis.
  • Familiarity with national and international building codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and efficiency.
  • Experience with large-scale projects and knowledge of additional BIM tools (preferred).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and adapt to evolving project needs.
Physical and/or travel demands:  
  • These duties require prolonged sitting and use of computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Visual acuity is required to discern drawings, and manual dexterity for operating computer equipment.
  • Travel to remote jobsite for meetings, troubleshooting and/or constructability review is required.
Benefits and Compensation:
  • The range for this position has been established at $91,300 to $129,000 and is US Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
