Responsibilities
- To safeguard public citizens, client employees, District residents, contractors and visitors and all client property by providing protective and security services for all work sites and lease-operated facilities and occupants through the use of highly trained personnel, state-of- the-art technology, industry-wide security best practices, and strategic partnerships with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Federal Protection Service (FPS), and other protective services and law enforcement stakeholders.
- All Security staff must conduct themselves in a professional manner while on-duty and while conducting business on behalf of USP Security at business, training, or social functions - to include the following rules of professional conduct:
- Avoid rude, offensive, or outrageous language or behaviors and refrain from ridicule and hostile or inappropriate jokes;
- Treat coworkers, customers, contractors, and vendors with patience, respect, and consideration;
- Be courteous and helpful to others at all times; and
- Communicate openly with supervisors, managers, and coworkers.
- All Security Officers shall be in proper uniform as prescribed in the contract at the beginning of their tour of duty and remain in proper uniform until the end of their full tour of duty. Any uniform part or accessory not prescribed or provided for herein, or authorized in the contract, shall not be worn. Security Officers shall maintain uniforms, insignia, accessories, and equipment in a serviceable manner. All items of clothing shall fit well (i.e., not be too long, short, tight, or loose) and be clean, neat, and pressed to give the Security staff member a constant professional appearance. All accessories shall be kept clean and polished or otherwise maintained as appropriate.
- Always perform all duties in a safe and professional manner.
- Operate vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Organize and file paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Arrest and detain violators as applicable and work in concert with local law enforcement to maintain and enforce law & order.
Requirements and skills
- Possess a valid / current Washington DC DLCP-issued license to work as a Security Officer or Special Police Officer.
- Ability to pass an enhanced criminal background check to be able to work around children.
- Willing to join SEIU32BJ Union (for applicable sites).
- Ability to pass firearms qualification (for Armed SPOs).
- Ability to pass a drug test.
- Ability to pass a medical screening / physical.
- Ability to work, stand and walk extended hours (up to 12 hours at a time)
- Ability to operate security screening equipment: metal detector, x-ray machines, monitor CCTV.
- For motor vehicle operators: valid drivers license and clean MVR record.
- Neat appearance and upkeep of uniform
- Excellent customer service skills
- Relevant training and/or certifications as required: CPR, AED, First Aid, Handcuffs, ASP/baton, firearms, OC Spray
