ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-RESEARCH CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Assists in directing the planning, operations, and support of the department. Assists the Director in ensuring institutional compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies and procedures, as required by federal regulations and institutional policies. Performs reviews of proposals/protocols and disclosures to determine if real, potential, or perceived conflicts exist. Assumes a leadership role in the development of policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility, in consultation with other departmental personnel and the director. Serves as appointed voting member of the Conflict-of-Interest Board. Supports members of the Conflict-of-Interest Review Board, including providing background on policies and procedures, conducting Board actions, managing retrospective reviews, assignment of reviews/annual compliance monitoring, and plans and prepares for Board meetings. Provides problem resolution assistance for staff and addresses and/or escalates human resource (HR) issues to the Director. Assists in preparing job descriptions and reclassifications. In the absence of the Director, attends meetings and oversees major/special projects, provides daily oversight of personnel and activities, and oversees all department functions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serves as a subject matter expert on federal and other COI policies including, but not limited to NIH, NSF, and FDA
- Oversees and ensures prompt and accurate reporting of significant financial interests as required by federal regulations, industry, and institutional policies
- Conducts complex reviews of proposals and disclosures to determine if conflicts exist. If conflict exists, prepares management plans for investigators, and escalates any appeals to the Director, Chair, and/or Board as appropriate
- Manages retrospective reviews. Assists in the resolution of individual and institutional noncompliance issues
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures responding to changing federal regulations and institutional needs, i.e., the campus-wide, in-house, online Financial Conflict of Interest in Research Training Course
- Serves as an appointed voting member of the Conflict-of-Interest Board which includes performing reviews, and voting on Board issues, policies, and procedures
- Supports members of the Conflict-of-Interest Review Board by overseeing or conducting Board actions such as assignments of reviews/annual compliance monitoring, and training members how to use current and/or new software systems
- Oversees and assists in planning and preparation for Board meetings
- Undertakes the responsibilities of others during vacations, illness, and other absences
- Perform other duties as assigned
Annual Salary: $73,945 - $120,165 (salary negotiable based on experience)
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in a related field. Work experience may NOT substitute for education experience.
