What are the responsibilities and job description for the OR Sterile Processing Technician position at UAB Health System?
Responsibilities in the Central Sterile Supply area include cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilization of surgical instruments and reusable supplies. Responsible for the safe and proper operation of all processing equipment i.e Steam sterilizer, Steris V-Pro 60 and Washer Disinfector, within hospital infection control guidelines. Receives and distributes instruments, supplies and equipment for the Surgery Department and UAB Callahan Eye Hospital (CEH) Clinics and Emergency Room (ER) as appropriate. Maintains good open communication with Central Sterile staff, Operating Room, Anesthesia, Nursing and Physicians. Maintains a clean and neat area.
- Experience:
- 3 or more years of experience in instrument reprocessing in a hospital environment
- Ophthalmic instrumentation preferred.
- Basic Skills as follows:
- Proper lifting and heavy handling techniques.
- Hospital Logistics
- Distribution Patterns
- Ability to organize sizeable workloads.
- Basic math
- Good communication skills
- Ethical business principles
- Computer Skills
- Function independently in the absence of the Central Sterile Manager.
