The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Molecular & Cellular Pathology , is seeking a Researcher V. The candidate will have oversight of lab and will be involved in supervision and training of students and other lab personnel. The candidate will perform independent research, design of experiments, provide intellectual input, perform method development, data analysis, writing of manuscripts, and contribute to grant preparation.
General Responsibilities
- To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab.
- To oversee projects within the lab.
- To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
- To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.
- To manage lab equipment and supplies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Using ingenuity and expertise in the development and application of a variety of advanced techniques.
- Applying novel approaches to solving research problems.
- Conducting literature searches for applicable information on recent developments and techniques.
- Organization and coordination of sample collection.
- Lab management, including re-stocking of supplies, keeping inventories of samples and reagents, keeping clean lab environment and overseeing compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct scientific research, develop and apply novel techniques, follow literature, solve research problems, independently drive research projects, prepare publications, help with preparation of preliminary data for grant applications.
- Oversight of research laboratory, ordering reagents and supplies, re-stocking.
- Train and supervise students and other laboratory personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range $49,004.80 - $95,500.00
- Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
- ORMaster's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
- ORBachelor's degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Experience in Molecular Biology and tissue culture techniques is desired.
- Biology Molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, cancer research or related fields.
- Skills in immunology, molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, animal care, PCR, gene expression analysis, protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA), method development, data analysis, writing of scientific manuscripts.
