Job Description:
- Provide and assist in the training of all technicians.
- Works with providers to understand the needs of each particular division and designs a training program to meet expectations
- In concert with Director of Operations- Clinical, manages staff workforce to support providers and patients
- Participates in technician planning sessions and employment matters
- Works to control costs.
- Uses data to improve performance of the department in an ongoing manner.
- Provides solutions, ideas, and/or options for problems or new methods for addressing problems.
- Takes part in Process Improvement initiatives by serving as a leader, facilitator, coach, or team member, as designated.
- Collaborates with the manager in the development and tracking of quality indicators.
- Participates in department metrics (measures used to indicate progress or achievement) as directed.
- Communicate with Staff/Physicians.
- Engage in employee/physician/patient satisfaction surveys.
- Communicate with Directors of Ambulatory Operations to address any issues.
- Ensure staff meet and maintain annual competencies.
- Promptly and professionally assists the physician in patient care.
- Foster teamwork with all members of the clinic staff
- Proactively monitor and adjust clinics as needed.
- Function as the 1st level, “go to person” for the providers and staff regarding troubleshooting issues.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and order supplies and minor equipment as directed.
- Assist with the review of workflows to aid in process improvement and efficient patient care.
- Facilitate daily operations and responsibilities of the “patient flow”.
- Attend ophthalmology training as necessary to perform job efficiently.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Associates degree and five (5) years of experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Five (5) years of Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) experience.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required
- Good organizational and ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the public.
- Understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care.
- Knowledge of medical instrumentation and proper care and usage.
- Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish safe work environment.
- Requires extensive knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms and ocular medications.
- Knowledge of A-Scans, fundus photos, nerve fiber analysis and fluorescein angiography.
- Extensive knowledge of Electronic Medical Record and the ability to train technicians on systems.
- Extensive knowledge of NextGen scheduling program.
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred.
