UC Davis Grounds Supervisor Salary or Pay Range : $67700 / yr. - $120500 / yr. – Please note : This position is subject to a departmental budgeted maximum salary of : $94,100 / yr. Apply By Date : March 6, 2025 Under general supervision of the Grounds Superintendent, this position directs and administers the design implementation, maintenance, installation and inspection of Grounds operations for assigned areas. The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for ensuring assigned work and scheduled functions are carried out and completed on time. The supervisor is also responsible for ensuring staff assignments are clear and teams have necessary tools / supplies to complete their assignments and will act as first point of contact for campus customers, addressing concerns and / or service needs. The incumbent is responsible for personnel functions such as safety, training, diversity and inclusion, corrective action and performance management. The supervisor is expected to create and maintain a positive and respectful working environment. Additionally, this position plays a key role in the expansion and maintenance of sustainable landscapes across campus. The incumbent will be required to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule and will be the sole supervisor responsible for the Saturday crew. - QAC license is needed or obtained within 6 months of employment date.
- High School Diploma or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in horticulture, arboriculture, and / or landscape design and maintenance.
- Experience supervising personnel including recruitment, work assignment, setting expectations, conflict resolution, performance management including disciplinary actions, and evaluating performance.
- Experience working with web-based systems, e-mail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent decision making, organizational and leadership skills to ensure adequate staffing and assignment scheduling to achieve timely progress on multiple assignments and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of productivity.
- Knowledge of chemical weed control, insect control, and disease control. Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in horticulture or a related field.
- Experience supervising union-represented staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to provide courteous customer service in person, in writing, and on the telephone; conveying a professional and businesslike image to a diverse student, staff, and general public population; and remaining calm and professional at all times, especially when dealing with difficult, disgruntled, or defensive people.
- Knowledge and experience of safety regulations and practices in a landscape setting. Experience training staff in safety techniques and strategies.
- Skills to assist with budget planning as needed.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives to build mutual respect, fairness, and equity.
