Kick It California (KIC), based in Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego, is positioned to intersect research and practice in the field of tobacco control. Established in 1992 as the first publicly funded statewide quitline, KIC (formerly known as the California Smokers' Helpline) contributed to the wide establishment of evidence-based, telephone-counseling services for smoking cessation both in the U.S. and internationally.
KIC's scientific innovation and research is recognized for advancing the field of tobacco control. KIC researchers organize large population surveys that examine substance use behavior among adolescents in addition to conducting randomized controlled trials of tobacco cessation interventions. KIC is funded to evaluate multiple school-based behavioral intervention programs, including California's Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program.
Under the direction of the Communications Director and in collaboration with Program Managers, this position is responsible for producing and publishing a new series of cannabis-related resources tailored to teens. The work is goal-oriented, with directives provided verbally or in writing (e.g., conducting user research to inform the development of a teen-focused booklet). The incumbent will work under the regular supervision of the Communications Director and Project Managers, with an expectation to check in regularly for guidance, gather feedback, and provide recommendations on next steps.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFour years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs. Working knowledge of applicable publishing software applications.
Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Skills to communicate effectively, diplomatically, and professionally, both orally and in writing.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Basic program and project management skills.
Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
Ability to support multiple projects or protocols with demanding timeframes.
Working knowledge of Tableau, as well as YouTube, Google Analytics, and social media analytics.
Knowledge of current youth tobacco data in California, such as California Youth Tobacco Survey (CYTS), California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), and relevant national datasets such as US Census and National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS).
Experience working in a research setting using protocols involving human subjects including knowledge of UCSD HRPP policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of the field of research related to vapes, cannabis, and tobacco use and prevention.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,800 - $91,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.77 - $43.58
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
