DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, the lead plumber will perform the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work on campus utility systems. Respond to trouble calls related to utility systems including but not limited to clogs, floods, backups, leaks, natural gas, potable water, high temp hot water, chilled water, reclaimed water, sewer, storm drains, and fire protection services. Inspect, troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance and repair Recreation building and utility plumbing systems. Inspect components to ascertain required repairs through proper troubleshooting techniques, and use of various test equipment and schematics. Coordinate services with campus customers, vendors and third party companies and assist with questions regarding work performed. Provide expeditious, professional and courteous customer service.

As the lead plumber, coordinate and schedule building systems work, provide instruction and training to additional employees and oversee for quality control and timely completion. May be assigned supervisory tasks that deal more on providing input in the absence of superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Proven journey level skills and experience performing modifications,

repairs, installations and alterations to utility / plumbing systems and components.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, adaptability, tactfulness and decisiveness.

Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.

Ability to test, troubleshoot, adjust, and align equipment machinery and utility plumbingcomponents.

Must be able to work in confined spaces and physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Ability to set priorities and work loads with minimal supervision, and plan work effectively in the field with customers and without direct supervision.

  • Ability to document utility plumbing system changes and / or new installations through written information and / or prints.

Ability to test and troubleshoot utility plumbing systems and correct problems when necessary.

Proficiency in the use of hand tools, silver brazing, welding and soft soldering methods, and other tools of the trade.

Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of plumbing jobs.

Ability to operate all sewer and storm drain cleaning equipment.

Experience in reading, interpreting and understanding blueprints, diagrams and other technical information to perform needed installations, modifications and repairs.

Required to possess and maintain California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification, training can be provided but must be completed within 6 months of hire.

Ability to operate all sewer and storm drain cleaning equipment.

Ability to operate personal computer to operate systems, check status / edit work orders and communicate using email.

Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations and ability to apply departmental and UCSD policies and procedures as related to the position.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

The regular work schedule is 40 hours per week, Sun-Thu 5 : 00am-1 : 30pm

Must work occasional flexible, variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as operationally necessary.

Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the position.

Must have CPR / First Aid certification or acquire such certification within six (6) months of employment.

Required to possess and maintain California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification, training can be provided but must be completed within 6 months of hire.

Must be able to perform other duties as assigned. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. All department staff will also perform other duties commensurate with the level and scope of this position as requested by their supervisor or other leadership personnel.

It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $109,411 - $109,411 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $52.40 - $52.40

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
