This project explores the potential of in situ training and learning to optimize computational solvers for HPC codes simulating blood flow transport. The goal is to replace expensive portions of the solver with machine learning (ML) approximations, which may deliver acceptable solutions while reducing computational time and resource demands. Leveraging prior expertise from ALCF colleagues on in situ training and inference, this project will study the feasibility of using ML to approximate portions of solvers in scientific codes such as HARVEY, NekRS, and LAMMPS. The research will focus on achieving a balance between accuracy, speed, and resource efficiency while demonstrating the approach on ALCF’s supercomputers.
Education and Experience Requirements
-Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited institution and have completed at least one semester of schooling by the start of the program.
-Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
-Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
-If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test.

HourlyThe expected hiring range for this position is $30.36-$45.54.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only.
