Position Title: Production Superintendent

Reports to: Operations Manager

Scope: The Production Superintendent will have overall accountability for directing and managing plant operations to meet all quality, safety, and customer requirements in the most safe, cost-effective, and timely manner to increase profitability by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties:

· Work directly with Production Supervisors to plan and direct work activities for the plant floor, using people, machines, materials, information, and energy to make product in the most efficient and effective manner ensuring company and customer needs are met.

· Track, analyze, forecast, and report on budgets and goals.

· Oversee department operations and staffing to reach production deadlines.

· Read and analyze production schedules assuring proper line balancing and labor needs to stay within company guidelines while assuring customer needs are met.

· Set clearly defined goals and expectations holding the Production Supervisors and Associates responsible for attainment.

· Assists the Director of Quality and Regulatory Compliance in Food Defense and Company Contingency plans.

· Oversight of all sanitation activities within all Plants, including cleaning the facility as well as equipment as required.

· Responsible for completing sanitation activities within all Plants, including facility housekeeping, and equipment cleaning and sanitizing.

· Responsible for using the 3-sink sanitation process to set up sanitizing process to clean direct contact parts, utensils, and equipment.

· Responsible for proper storage, handling and issuing approved cleaning chemicals in all Plant facilities.

· Responsible for updating, monitoring compliance and training for the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).

· Following Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) always.

· Must follow 5S protocol and be familiar with definitions to maintain work area.

· Ensure all sanitation activities are properly documented in appropriate cleaning checklists and equipment logs.

· Ensure all equipment is properly locked out and documented prior to starting sanitation activities.

· Communicate with Environmental Health and Safety Manager and Director of Quality to identify and resolve any plant sanitation issues.

· Monitor the training of sanitation technicians and ensure they have the most up to date information and training.

· Participate in the development and implementation of production methods and procedures designed to enhance operations and improve production efficiencies and product quality.

· Lead, manage and hold Production Supervisors and Associates accountable for their responsibilities.

· Investigate and resolve work related conflicts and concerns conferring as necessary with other management and supervisors to ensure resolution.

· Participate as an active member of the Corrective Action Teams.

· Follow 6s protocols and hold Supervisors and associates responsible for following 6s protocols.

· Promote Company core values and assure core values are upheld by all direct and indirect reports.

· Enforce all company rules, regulations and policies.

· Responsible to report any and all, major or minor food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

· Promotes food safety and quality awareness throughout the organization.

· Assist with other projects or duties as assigned.

Assume authority and responsibility of Operations Manager to provide coverage in the event of Operations Manager’s absence


Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field and at least five years of experience in production supervision.
  • Excellent work history, attendance, initiative and drive to succeed.
  • Maintain excellent communication and relationships with others.
  • Be a team player and maintain a positive attitude.

Physical Environment/ Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • The associate will frequently be required to stand for long periods of time and to occasionally sit, bend, or stoop to perform certain tasks.
  • The associate will frequently be required to make coordinated hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects.
  • The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The associate must be able to wear personal PPE, including gloves, masks, etc., when required.
  • The associate must obtain a forklift certification and will be required to perform forklift duties.


Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • Associates in the plant may be exposed to raw ingredients and food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat).


Work Hours

This is a full-time position, with a generally set schedule (1st, 2nd or 3rd shift). However, the associate may be required to work overtime or work a flexible schedule based on operational need.
