Our Department of Ophthalmology's Doheny Eye Center in Pasadena is seeking a Patient Access Services Supervisor to manage administrative functions and support our high-volume surgery services. Reporting to the the Practice Manager, this role requires a motivated leader who can maintain a positive culture, efficiently manage the increasing volume of patient cases, and oversee administrative workflows. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage administrative personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and monitor staff performance
- Supervise patient surgery scheduling processes, including billing, insurance verification, and authorizations
- Maintain and update surgery scheduling protocols
- Act as a liaison; resolve patients, physicians, and co-workers' concerns
- Provide backup support to administrative staff as needed
Required
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a clinical setting, including organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives, training staff, and evaluating staff effectiveness.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology.
- Familiarity with surgery scheduling systems, preferably with UCLA systems / CareConnect or ophthalmology, or both.
- Working knowledge of current third party payor systems including managed care and governmental programs; familiarity with current patient billing practices.
- Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
- Strong organizational skills to effectively coordinate the patient care activities of the practice.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal effectively with patients and staff who are under stress.
- Familiarity with computerized patient appointment scheduling and registration systems.
- Ability to follow-through with tasks under minimal supervision and ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Ability to organize and maintain patient records efficiently.Ability to perform under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
