General Description
Responsible for providing and coordinating opportunities for leadership development. Encourage the development of student groups with extracurricular and co-curricular student engagement programs via student activities, civic engagement, leadership development, student conferences, and cultural events. Oversee student engagement and involvement, assist in coordinating and implementing activities in relation to student clubs, organizations, and student related special events, programs, activities, and recognition and awards programs. The Specialist needs to be well versed in all student service areas of the college. Assists in developing programs to address student retention goals and student workshops. Assist in fostering an environment that supports and encourages graduation. The Specialist establishes and assesses measurable student learning outcomes, program goals, and objectives.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Supervises and advises the Student Leadership Council ( SLC ) and all registered Club / Organizations advisors.
- Assists in the evaluation of Club / Organization advisors and SLC student leaders.
- Assists with the annual Student Life budget; Oversees daily management of registered Club / Organizations budgets.
- Provide training and leadership development and civic engagement of club leaders and contribute to a thriving and engaging student life.
- Trains and manages all advisors that work with student organizations and clubs.
- Supervises the election / appointment and installation of SLC officers and representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to envision, plan and follow through with trending student development theories, ideas, activities, training and programming.
- Provides and conducts leadership seminars, training, workshops and campus-wide events for students, student government organizations, and other student groups and organizations.
- Provides support, and direction to student groups, organizations and advisors through leadership, organizational and resource development.
- Plans, implements and evaluates co-curricular student activities which provide a welcoming campus environment, and which supports student recruitment, retention and the successful achievement of academic and career goals. Oversees and assists in developing activities, events and programs that satisfy the needs of a diverse student population which are designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students.
- Maintain statistical reports, surveys and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs.
- Compile and analyze data related to student participation and program evaluation; develop organizational work processes which facilitate attainment of established program goals and objectives.
- Prepare administrative reports for College Life events, programs and accomplishments.
- Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as Commencement and New Student Orientation.
- Plan and implement fall and spring "Involvement Fair "events on all three campuses.
- Plan and implement the College Life Awards at the end of each spring semester.
- Serve as backend administrator on Owl's Space platform
- Assist in preparing effective promotional and informational publications and materials.
- Consults with the appropriate department to resolve problems or policy concerns evolving from within the sections of the program or unit supervised.
- Knowledge and experience in designing programs and services that are based in current research on student learning and student development. Oversee and assist in developing activities, events and programs designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students.
- Development goals and objectives; collects appropriate data; and completes assessments of results assigned; recommends modifications to existing services based on outcomes.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the operation of various activities.
- Provides data on area usage and materials needed for the unit budget.
- Performs related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Education Requirements
Master's Degree in in Student Personnel Services, or related field.

Terms of Employment
Full Time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Evening, weekends, and extended hours may be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
