Job Summary
The Unit Director for the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit and the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit designs and oversees all nursing and administrative operations for these inpatient units. The Unit Director is accountable for the overall administrative planning and coordination of the staffing, fiscal, and material resources. In collaboration with the Director of Pediatric Critical Care Services, the Unit Director assists with the development and implementation of new programs and policies. The Unit Director serves as a role model for nursing practice and utilizes nursing and leadership theories to guide practice and clinical quality. Direct reports are Assistant Unit Directors.
Salary Information
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $253,901 - $269,436 (Annual Rate).
Unit Overview
The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18-bed tertiary and quaternary cardiac surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) is a 12-bed unit specializing in the care of acutely ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. PCICU and CTCU patients arrive through our in-house, nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be provided at UCSF Medical Center or direct referrals for specialized surgical care. These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses and nursing leaders are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team on these units and learn and employ the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a related clinical area (pediatric, cardiac, transitional, OR intensive care)
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership (supervisory / management) in an inpatient nursing unit
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Nursing required
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
- American Heart Association CPR for health care providers
- American Heart Association PALS
- Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
- Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives
- Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
