An entry level base wage of $21.36 per hour (26 pay periods per year). Then as you advance through the Transportation Education Program (TEP) levels you will receive a wage increase.

The Position
The Utah Department of Transportation is looking for a hard working, hands-on individual to fill a Transportation Technician II position in Region One's Park Valley Maintenance Station, located at MP 55 Hwy 30, Park Valley, UT 84329. This is a very important position that is part of a team that oversees/is involved with the construction and maintenance of state roads and Keeps Utah Moving as safely and efficiently as possible.
Principal Duties
As a Transportation Technician you will perform inspection and testing of materials and use a variety of software in the management of construction projects. You will also operate heavy machinery from snowplows to backhoes to maintain the roads, inspect and test materials placed, and use software in the management of the Departments assets. Each Transportation Technician is expected to become proficient in areas of Construction and Maintenance, including but not limited to the following:
- Performing general maintenance to roadway and drainage features.
- Performing general maintenance on equipment.
- Removing snow from state roadways using snowplows/graders/blowers, etc.
- Performing construction inspection and documentation on the work performed by contractors.
- Performing materials sampling and testing and providing the associated required documentation to ensure features are constructed/installed by contractors according to project plans and specifications.
- Working with contractors to complete construction, maintenance and permit projects.
- Perform vegetation management including herbicide application.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who:
- Has a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the “N” endorsement (an “N” endorsement with a “K” restriction is acceptable for applicants under the age of 21) or is able to obtain within 60 days after hire through Department provided training. See Policy 06A-15
- Is able and willing to report to the Park Valley Maintenance Station, located at MP 55 Hwy 30, Park Valley, UT 84329 within a 30-minute response time.
- Is able and willing to provide 24-hour availability.
- Will self-provide a smartphone with data and will be eligible to receive a monthly taxable allowance to offset the cost of cell plans. See
- Is able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Is reliable and can work well in a team environment.
- Is able and willing to complete continued education in the UDOT Transportation Education Program (TEP).
- Obtain certifications required by the Region within the first year and keep those certifications current.

This position may be filled at the Transportation Technician I level for applicants who do not meet the preferences listed below. In order to qualify at the Transportation Technician I level applicants must have a class "A" CDL or be able to obtain one within 60 days of hire. After hire, applicant will need to complete all TEP, maintenance equipment, and construction certification requirements.
