UFG is looking for an ambitious, career-minded individual with a strong data science aptitude and outstanding people skills for a professional Data Science Co-op/Internship.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the data science team with the following daily activities:
- Work with management to prioritize modeling needs
- Support research and development efforts in a diverse set of challenges as we rapidly prototype and build new modes
- Extensive experience analyzing data and a broad understanding of core statistical and Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques
- Design, build, and deploy ML/AI systems aligning to business objectives
- Translate and champion ML/AI capabilities for non-technical audiences
- Stay current with modeling techniques/technologies
- Maintain positive, professional business acumen and relationships with cross-functional teams and external customers
- Train end users on new models
- Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
- Collaborate with data architects, analytics, and IT team members on project goals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in related field of study such as actuarial science or statistics/applied statistics
- Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. (in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other scientific field of study) preferred
- Applicants should possess proven technical and analytical abilities, leadership potential, innovation, creativity and superb communication skills
- Standard knowledge in the use of data sources and applications to conduct research
- Strong working knowledge of data analysis
- Ability to analyze data and review analysis from others and identify and resolve basic data issues
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and all organization levels
- High level organizational and project management skills in order to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner and to monitor processes throughout a team or department
- Strong decision making skills
- Works effectively in a team environment
- Experience working with Python/R, SQL languages required
