Summary: The Development Coordinator is a dynamic, detail-oriented professional responsible for executing UWP’s grassroots donor strategies, overseeing annual campaigns and events, and cultivating and stewarding entry-level to mid-level donors. This role focuses on building UWP’s donor community, with a particular emphasis on increasing membership in The River (UWP’s monthly giving program) and strengthening donor retention.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Coordinator ensures the successful implementation of grassroots fundraising efforts while supporting the overall revenue goals of UWP.

Supervisory Responsibility: Skilled volunteers and interns
Key Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for expanding and deepening UWP’s grassroots donor network through strategic cultivation, engagement, and stewardship. Overseeing key fundraising campaigns and donor cultivation and stewardship surrounding signature events, this role ensures the successful execution of initiatives that drive donor acquisition and retention. Collaborating closely with the Director of Development and the external Marketing Contractor, this position helps shape compelling messaging and digital/print media that amplify UWP’s mission. Additionally, this role provides essential donor data analysis, maintains accurate records, and coordinates volunteers and logistics to strengthen UWP’s fundraising efforts.
Grassroots Donor Development (50%)
- Grow and upgrade UWP’s base of entry-level and mid-level donors through systematic moves management.
- Grow The River, UWP’s monthly giving program, enrolling new members and engaging and upgrading current members.
- Create and implement systematic stewardship strategies to strengthen long-term retention.
- Develop a recognition program that delights and connects our donors to the important members of our team, partners, and communities we serve through stories, photos, and updates.
Campaigns and Events (30%)
- Lead the execution of UWP’s three annual fundraising campaigns.
- Communicate appreciation and impact through systematic acknowledgments, donation receipts, and impact reports.
- Lead the donor cultivation and stewardship surrounding three signature events, micro-events, and virtual/in-person presentations, ensuring fundraising and attendance goals are met.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Contractor to develop all campaign and event collateral, including messaging, digital/print media, and social media content.
- Serve as the main point of contact for event promotion, coordinating with local media outlets, advertisers, and vendors.
- Collaborate with the Events Manager and appropriate volunteer teams to solicit corporate sponsorships and in-kind donation asks in alignment with the Development team’s strategies.
Administrative Support (15%)
- Support the Director of Development by providing donor data analysis, impact reports, and prospect research.
- Ensure Salesforce and other donor databases are accurate and up to date.
- Provide logistical support for all donor engagement opportunities.
Management (5%)
- Actively recruit and oversee skilled volunteers and interns to make a productive and meaningful contribution to the Development team through their efforts.

Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or event planning and execution.
- A proven track record of successful annual campaign fundraising, peer-to-peer fundraising, and membership-based fundraising.
- Outstanding communication skills and the ability to represent the organization in person, on screen, and in writing.
- Positive attitude and energy and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- A high level of focus and goal-oriented drive.
- Ability to set and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
- A passion for staying up to date with development best practices and applying that knowledge.
- Fluency with Google Suite.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Background in non-profit international development or WASH programming.
- Experience with volunteer management.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Asana, iWave Kindsight, MailMeteor, MailChimp, Give Lively, Giving Block, Canva, Adobe, Figma, and the EOS Framework.
Travel: Somelocal travel for meetings with current and prospective donors and occasional travel to Uganda is expected.
Location: This office-based opportunity is for those located in (or willing to relocate to) the Rochester area only. At this time, we are only considering candidates who are eligible to work in the United States without the need of company sponsorship now or in the future.
Compensation Range: $45,000 - $55,000
